Mini Scooter launch makes major impact

GTMS implemented the build of three unique stage sets at a prestigious event, staged by Iris Experience, for BMW Mini to showcase its prototype electric scooters.

Iris Experience approached GTMS to build the stage sets, each of which revealed the new Mini Scooter E Concept in a visually interesting way to the lifestyle press and VIP guests.

The scooter designs were revealed by BMW Group Design senior vice president Adrian van Hooydonk who led the guests around the event held at Soho's Vinyl Factory, just around the corner from Carnaby Street.

As Adrian explained the concept behind each set the lighting and mechanical engineering, which was designed by Iris Experience and produced and installed by GTMS, was activated to reveal the scooters.

The first set was built to look like a design studio ideas board. A large sharks tooth Gauze covered chalkboard complete with working drawings painted across it, kept the Mini Scooter hidden until the chroma batten lights were triggered to highlight the scooter behind the screen.

The second set was created to look like a designer's drawing room with bookcases, a desk, easy chairs and an array of props. The scooter was revealed by incorporating a revolving stage which spun round like a secret entrance to an underground lab with brick wall and floor mounted lights

The third set was in a Mod style, with blue and red chequered flooring onto a two step high stage unit and a light box table unit that incorporated a motorcycle lift. The lift was adapted enabling the scooter to rise up impressively through to the table height. The crowd was able to have a 360 degree view of the Mod style scooter.

GTMS was responsible for bringing the design to life and for how the mechanisms were incorporated into each set. The build was implemented over a 10-day period and the install took just a day and a half using six GTMS crew

Iris Experience and BMW were exceptionally pleased with the end result as the event had a real impact on the industry in addition receiving a wealth of press and internet coverage.

As a concept, the scooters have a quirky appeal boast eco-credentials that GTMS strongly supports. This project created a great showcase for GTMS' ability and quality of workmanship and is testament to the talented team which worked hard on the production and design.
