Tiffany Bow

On Thursday 7 July, the Royal Parks Foundation, The Tiffany & Co. Foundation and renowned St James's Park visitor, Jools Holland launched the Tiffany Fountain, a stunning new 20ft water plume, which takes centre stage in St James's Park lake, leaping against the magnificent backdrop of Buckingham Palace, Whitehall and Horse Guards Parade.

GTMS worked with the Royal Parks Foundation, the charity for London's eight Royal Parks, to produce a giant fabricated Tiffany Bow that was secured to the lake floor by a bespoke supporting structure. The Tiffany blue pantone was printed directly on to foamex boards, which were then heat treated to create the shape of the bow. Additional creases were also moulded into the design to make the bow's design look more authentic and give it a sense of perspective. A simple scaffolding structure, designed to stay hidden underneath the water, was built to support and hold the giant bow and ribbon in place above the water level. The whole piece was created with simplicity in mind so the client could easily assemble it and take it apart without too much difficulty, saving on time and money.

The creation of this new fountain has been made possible following a generous $1.25 million gift from The Tiffany & Co. Foundation to the Royal Parks Foundation (USA), a charity established to enable America to support the natural history and heritage of London's Royal Parks. Top facts about the new Tiffany Fountain

The new fountain replaces an historical fountain first installed at Pelican Rock in 1966, which was then de-commissioned due to wear and tear in 1996

The jet is capable of reaching a height of 8mtrs and its position within the lake is aligned to the Balcony of Buckingham Palace

The amount of water being continuously recycled from the lake through the jet would completely fill up your bath at home in 24 seconds. The volume of water pumped is 42,000Lts per hour

A clever wind speed sensor is located at the end of Duck Island to signal to the fountain control system when to lower the water flow through the pump and reduce the jet height in strong winds. This will keep the fountain operating and avoid the Pelicans having a cold shower in winter.

The lighting system uses low energy LEDs and is automatically switched off during the day.

What our client said about us

"We approached GTMS to help us produce a giant 6ft blue Tiffany Bow to float on water for the launch of a magnificent new 20ft water fountain in St James's Park lake in London.

"This was the first time the Royal Parks Foundation had ever worked with a design and build company on a project of this type. With a short timeframe, limited budget and the complexity of installing the bow in the middle of a lake, we needed to work with a team that could deliver to tight deadlines and provide a cost effective solution - a task they performed with real efficiency.

"Throughout the entire process, from the initial brief and planning phase to the design of the structure, right through to the build and delivery of the oversized bow, the team worked collaboratively together and delivered what we set out to achieve.

"Their commitment to do a great job was second to none and we were really pleased with their organisation and professionalism. Thank you!"
